7 Use of internet by teenagers should be limited

Some people think that teenagers’ use of internet should be limited. Others believe that internet is an academic resource that they should have free access to, in order to do things such as homework and projects. Discuss both these views and give your opinions.

Teenagers have now become internet savvy. They now depend on it for all their needs, personal, social as well as academic. Internet is now a great source of knowledge for them and they no longer need to depend upon friends, family or school.

School children are given a lot of projects in various subjects. Most of the time they are expected to gain resources from internet. Parents needn’t be bored by tasks which teenagers must do themselves.

Likewise teenagers of higher classes now begin to do reference reading. The nature of learning has changed. Modern education aims students to be self-learners and lifelong learners. Hence students are given extra tasks to instill this quality it them.

Internet is a store house of knowledge. It has answers to all questions and on all subjects. Hence it is a great tool to assist with homework. The burden becomes lighter for students. Homework is an essential part of learning.

Problems arise when teenagers become internet addicts. Internet also provides diverse ways of entertainment. So it can become a source of diversion too. This can counter effect the benefits of internet as a learning medium. More often it does happen that teenagers internet addicts which then begins to interfere with their studies much to the worry of parents. This leads to unnecessary conflicts at homes.

Internet or computer addiction can lead to wastage of time. It can affect health and eyesight. Teenagers can get addicted to gaming or porn sites for they are growing adults. They can become reclusive. It can dull mental faculties and reduce interest in studies on the contrary instead of leading to gain in knowledge. That is why at times teenagers internet activities have to be limited so as to impose some kind of a discipline.

Hence we can conclude that while teenagers should have access to knowledge on internet to help them with homework or with projects, it is also essential that it doesn’t become a distraction. This fine balance needs to be maintained to reap the best benefits from internet.
