How does improvement in technology affect life, tradition and culture?

Technological progress has definitely affected the life of man as well as cultures. Technology has raised the standard of living. It has made man materialistic too. Media has given exposure to other cultures. Man is now aware of cultural diversity in the world.

At homes and offices all work is done by technology. Technology keeps developing and man has to keep pace with the development. In offices we have gadgets like computers, internet, printers, scanners and so on. No work can be done without the help of technology. Rather work can now be done faster. Email has changed the mode of communication. Communication is now faster and has resulted in boost in business.

The market is flooded with all types of gadgets to do various household chores. These gadgets save time and energy. We have washing machines to wash clothes, grinders to grind ingredients, refrigerators, electric ovens, dough makers and so on. However these gadgets have also made us less physically active which isn’t good for our health.

As man wishes to have more and more of these technological gadgets and enjoy comforts he has developed a materialist attitude to life. For this he needs more wealth and money. This has changed his values and preferences. Socially he has become more competitive. This results in undue stress for he doesn’t want a simple life. He is never satisfied with what her has and wants to acquire more and more comforts.

Improvement in transportation, communication and entertainment facilities has increased contact with foreign cultures. We now watch foreign movies, listen to foreign music, like foods of other countries, like to wear western dresses and so on. The young in India like to ape the western culture and style of living and thinking. On the other hand we can be glad that a global culture is developing which will be homogeneous. This will bring about greater understanding among people of different cultures and nations thus eliminating any chances of war or conflicts or political disputes. People will be more broadminded and have respect for other cultures.

Technology has brought about globalization and liberalization. Man has begun to migrate to other countries for better work opportunities or even settle down. Hence they gradually lose contact with their own cultures and become acquainted with foreign cultures. They have to adopt the culture of the country they choose to live or settle. Many advanced countries that face shortage of labour are able to procure them from less advanced nations.

So finally I can conclude that technology has impacted man’t life in various ways for it is able to reach the remotest corners of the world. It definitely is affecting cultures and traditions as it is bringing people of different cultures together. The impact of technology on man’s life and cultures is inevitable. No doubt cultures might lose some of their fine individual characteristics.
