Education is the single most important factor in the development of a developing country.

Education is essential for the development and career progress of an individual. Only when individuals progress at an individual level can they contribute to the progress of their nations.

The first effect of illiteracy and poor education is unemployment and poverty. Individuals cannot earn well. They will end up doing menial jobs and not be able to look after their families well. The standard of living of people will be low. They will not be able to afford good quality education, food and health facilities to their families. If the parents cannot afford education to their children then the next generation is also doomed.

Many children from poor families are not encouraged by their families to attend schools. They are made to do menial work to supplement their parents’ poor earnings or look after their siblings. Hence these children remains poor and illiterate.

Governments in many countries provides free education up to a certain age. It provides incentives in the form of free stationary, lunch, uniform and so on. If education is made compulsory and free till the age of 15 every child will be forced to study.

Even in advanced countries public schools provide free and compulsory to children. Every country wants its citizens to have be educated and advanced. Every country needs engineers, doctors, scientists, teachers, entrepreneurs and businessmen. When people are educated a country will have good leaders and policy makers who will be able to guide the country towards greater economic prosperity.

Special care should be taken to see that women too are educated. An educated mother can bring up her children and educate them well. Educated women can take up jobs and contribute to the family income, thus bringing economic prosperity to the family.

At the college or university level the government should provide facilities like subsidies or education loans so as to support higher education for those who cannot afford the fees.

A country that wants to rid itself of problems like illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, overpopulation must take special care of education of its people. If citizens are not well educated they cannot aid its government in its development efforts.
