The age of information technology has taken a lot of people by surprise. While it has become a way of life for some, others know very little about it and may be unlikely to learn. Eventually we will have a polarized society and this will lead to serious social problems. To what extent do you agree with this statement?
Information technology is one of the latest achievements of man. It has changed man’s life altogether. It has revolutionized the way he works and lives, making him fully dependent upon it.
All business and personal communication is done through internet. Modern trade and business is fully dependent on it. This has enhanced the pace at which people communicate at work places. In fact all business communication is now reliant on information technology. Various IT tools are available.
Social media has changed the way people interact with their loved ones or contacts or keep in touch with them. It has helped him to expand network. Information technology as assured twenty four hours connectivity. Be it mobile or computers or social media, all are available at a cheap cost.
People living in urban areas in developing countries have easy access to information technology. They chat continuously, surf for information, shop or sell online, book travel or movie tickets or exchange information on social websites. For people in urban areas information technology has become a way of life for them.
Information technology has helped nations to progress in all fields like communication, medical, space research, industralization, education, educational research and so on. We see its application in all fields.
On the other hand people living in rural areas may not even have heard of information technology or know much about it and least expect man’s dependence on it. They may be totally oblivious of the advancement as facilities have still not reached the rural areas. In this respect the people in the rural areas are less privileged. They are still living life as people did earlier with no change. This can lead to great social disparity in terms of awareness, knowledge, growth and facilities.
Hence the government in all countries should try to bring information technology within the reach of all, so no social disparity or polarization takes place. With the world now becoming a global village, it is all the more necessary that connectivity is good and each one feels to be a part of the world community.
