The government spends a vast amount on building roads, broadening them and maintaining them for the convenience of the citizens. It also builds under bridges and over bridges wherever required for smooth flow of traffic. This also results in lesser number of accidents as congestion and traffic jams are reduced on roads.

The government also makes traffic rules that are supposed to be followed by the people. At times the government has to enforce upon the people or levy people upon those who are careless. It runs awareness programs and tries to educate the people about traffic rules.

Often in many instances we see that accidents are caused due to the negligence or carelessness of the people themselves. Often people are ignorant of the traffic rules or they do not care to follow the rules. Some simply have no road manners.

Let us take the case of helmets. People in India do not care to wear it although it is for their own safety. Many deaths are caused due to this reason alone.

While driving cars people do not wear seat belts or talk on mobiles, both of which are illegal. Many accidents are caused due to this. People cause injury to their ownselves or lose their lives.

In spite of knowing it is dangerous to drive on the wrong side, people in their do so and collide with other vehicles. Drunk driving is another common cause of accidents and deaths.

Due to increasing number of vehicles on roads, people need to be more careful while driving. They need to be more careful in traffic jams. Pedestrians too cause accidents while crossing streets. They are a risk to the drivers.

Loud horns, loud music or poorly maintained vehicles can distract travelers. Teenagers who are under aged venture out on the streets and the parents are least concerned.

Hence we can see that people themselves are responsible for a large number of accidents that take place. They need to be well educated and disciplined. If they do not take care of their own lives and safety, then all other efforts by the government will fail.
